It’s municipal election season in B.C. and, in most communities during the run-up to Oct. 15, you’ll find dozens of candidates, a bounty of local and regional issues, and a bevy of slates and parties across the political spectrum.
What you won’t find: consensus. Except for one topic: the need for more affordable housing.
Long before NDP MLA and leadership hopeful David Eby announced his wide-ranging housing platform on Sept. 28, there has been widespread acknowledgment at all levels of government and among community activists and average citizens that something needs to be done to rein in the costs of housing in B.C.
Make Housing Central is doing something. More importantly, we’re asking those who will lead our local governments to do something.
The Housing Central partners are first asking candidates to understand the critical housing needs in their communities. To make it easy for them and for voters, we’ve launched a public portal that provides critical information for every B.C. community.
