Understanding Financial Statements

Do you sit through the annual financial statement presentation by your Accountant, Auditor or Treasurer and wish you understood more? Do you want to better understand all these statements and how the inter-relate to each other? Do you want to be able to ask the important questions?

Join us for a two hour session where we help you make sense of your financial statements.

By the end of this session, participants will understand:
• What do the various statements mean and how are they used
• How to interpret the financial statements for presentation purposes to your stakeholders
• The role of the external accountants and their responsibilities
• Your roles and responsibilities as the organization
• Terminology and vocabulary

Susan joined the Victoria Foundation in 2002 as their Finance Director.The role focused on the financial oversight of the Foundation’s endowment and included a national role in the community foundation movement, working closely with BC’s First Nations groups on specific trusts and the review and updating of the Victoria Foundation Act in 2009.

In 2017, Susan began instructing at Camosun College in the School of Business. First year accounting and accounting software courses are her current specialty area. Susan plays a key role in curriculum development for the Bookkeeping Fundamentals Certificate Program and sits on CPA Canada Competency Map Task Force.

Susan established her financial consulting practice in 2011. She provides financial mentorship, board & staff training, and seminar presentations to both non-profit and for-profit organizations. Susan’s outlook is to empower her clients by training them to understand their financial processes and enhance their efficiencies. Susan is a regular presenter with Volunteer Victoria and many other charitable organizations on a wide variety of topics impacting the non-profit sector.
