Basics of Verifying Tenant Income and Assets

This presentation provides an introduction to new rent administrators on the importance of reviewing and completing the appropriate rent subsidy forms. It explores various income declaration scenarios and guides housing providers from start to finish on how to effectively review documentation, assess the reasonability of the information submitted and complete the rent review process. Those who complete this module will gain a basic understanding of the Annual Rent Review process.

Mariana Hulsen, Audit Services Specialist, BC Housing

Mariana joined BC Housing in 2017, and shortly after she started assisting housing providers through the Rent Calculation Department. In 2020 she joined the Audit Services team, where she works directly with subsidized tenants and housing providers to ensure tenant income and assets are accurately declared, and rent contributions are correctly calculated. With a background in teaching, training and program delivery, Mariana is driven by a passion to help others succeed.

Christine Henly, Senior Manager, BC Housing

As the Senior Manager of Audit Services at BC Housing, Christine supports the Audit Service Specialists. She ensures tenant audit outcomes are accurate and align with the BC Housing Rent Calculation Guidelines. Christine is always happy to speak with the housing providers regarding best practices concerning rent subsidy calculations.
