Help shape the future of rental housing in Vancouver.
The City of Vancouver is reviewing and updating its market rental incentive programs (including Rental 100 and the Affordable Housing Choices Interim Rezoning Policy).
Over the past decade, the incentive programs have supported the delivery of almost 3,700 new purpose-built rental homes, and another 5,000 units have been approved or are under construction. Despite the progress, there remains a shortage of purpose-built rental housing in Vancouver, and the vacancy rate remains extremely low at less than 1%.
Over half of Vancouver’s households rent their homes and the majority of new households in the city are renting instead of owning. As we explore opportunities and ideas to improve our current rental incentive policies to help meet the needs of current and future renters in Vancouver, we are seeking input from the public and key stakeholders on potential policy changes. Feedback received will help inform future policy, and will be summarized as part of a report to Council in Fall 2019.
