On April 4, CMHC announced Phase 1 of the Federal Community Housing Initiative.  For social and non profit housing providers who hold federally-administered Operating Agreements that expire between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2020, this program will provide existing levels of subsidy until March 31, 2020.  In the meantime, the government will consult with CHRA and other stakeholders on Phase 2 of the program, which will cover federal Operating Agreements until March 31, 2027.  Eligible providers should shortly be receiving confirmation of their extensions by mail.  If you have any questions about this program, please consult your local CMHC Affordable Housing Specialist.

In addition, CMHC has announced that in the coming weeks, a new website will be launched to accept applications under the new $15.9 billion National Housing Co-Investment Fund and other initiatives under the National Housing Strategy. The website will contain tools to help navigate the application process and more details on all of the new NHS initiatives.  Applications for the existing Affordable Housing Innovation Fund and Rental Construction Financing initiative can also be made via this website.  Once the website is functional, CHRA will send out additional information.
