This toolkit supports local governments in British Columbia to understand and mitigate the impacts of sustainability policies on non-profit housing providers and tenants.
As municipalities advance sustainability requirements, unintended impacts can arise, including increased capital and operating costs, administrative burdens, and tenant affordability pressures. The toolkit outlines key challenges and offers practical, actionable mitigation strategies. It is designed to help decision-makers consider the unique needs of non-profit housing when developing climate objectives, providing tools to implement policies that reduce emissions while protecting and strengthening non-profit housing outcomes in communities across BC.
Non-profit housing providers can also use this toolkit to determine how local policies may affect their operations and tenants and identify strategies to engage with local governments to mitigate these impacts.
