BC Housing is seeking to provide eligible supportive housing providers with funds for purchasing overdose prevention technology devices. BCNPHA is assisting with the role out of these funds.
Typically, overdose prevention devices are used in spaces and buildings where people are at high risk of overdosing. In our sector, the technology enables housing providers connect tenants at risk of overdose to staff, supporting safe drug use and helping activate life-saving responses when needed.
Through this initiative, BCNPHA will be partnering with BC based Brave Co-op and Lifeguard Health, organizations which have developed technology and devices to detect overdoses and are being used by non-profit housing providers across the province.
To learn more about the technology providers and the specific overdose prevention devices that would be available through this funding program BCNPHA will be hosting online learning events with the two overdose prevention technology providers, Brave and Lifeguard. During the session housing providers can learn about overdose prevention technology the technology enables housing providers connect tenants at risk of overdose to staff, supporting safe drug use and helping activate life-saving responses when needed.
During this session housing providers will learn about Lifeguard’s overdose prevention device and it’s role in connecting tenants at risk of overdose with staff in case of an emergency. The session also provides an opportunity for housing providers to hear from PHS Community Services about their experiences in using overdose prevention devices with their building and how staff use Lifeguards technology to respond to overdoses within their buildings and keep tenants safe.
