The second session in Housing Provider Legal Education Month!
Attendees will receive an overview of applicable workplace laws in BC including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Workers’ Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Personal Information Protection Act. Key strategies for reducing workplace risk will also be reviewed, including the importance of written employment agreements and key terms, hiring practices, performance management, human rights accommodations, workplace safety, and terminations. Attendees will receive some basic templates and guides to manage employment matters.

Ryley is a seasoned employment and human rights lawyer with experiencing serving First Nations, Nation controlled enterprises, non-profits, charities and impact enterprises respecting a wide range of workplace related issues, including drafting agreements and policies, providing education sessions, advising respecting performance management and terminations, and has advocated for clients at various levels of court. Ryley understands the practicalities and nuance of employment law from years of experience in the practice area, and is honored to serve organizations with housing, Reconciliation and other positive community and cultural impact mandates. When he’s not on the clock, you can find him tending to trees with care as a part time arborist, soaking up the inclement Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, weather, where he and his family reside, or shredding BC slopes.
