Program Description

An Overview

In this three-hour workshop from staff at the Office of the Ombudsperson, you will learn what administrative fairness is and why it is important, including: how to follow a fair decision-making process, exercise discretion fairly, demonstrate service fairness, and effectively handle complaints. The workshop offers an understanding of what steps you can take to ensure administrative fairness in your work. Workshop participants will learn, identify, and apply the principles of administrative fairness using the Fairness Triangle.

  • Learn about the Ombudsperson’s role as well as fairness resources available to you.
  • Learn and apply the principles of administrative fairness using the concept of the fairness triangle.
  • Understand the importance of fairness within the non-profit housing sector.

The Office of the Ombudsperson

The Office of the Ombudsperson is an independent office of the BC legislature that receives and investigates complaints from members of the public about the administrative fairness of the decisions and actions of provincial and local public bodies.

This workshop is presented by the members of the Public Authority Consultation & Training Team (PACT). Since 2017, the BC Office of the Ombudsperson’s PACT Team has been supporting the public sector in promoting fairness through consultation, educational workshops, webinars, guides and other resources.
