Bystander Intervention Training

ICA’s Bystander Intervention Training is a two-part curriculum designed to help individuals actively address and intervene in instances of racism, discrimination and harassment. Suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds, the training empowers participants with practical tools to recognize harm, respond effectively, and build safer, more inclusive environments through historical reflection and meaningful discussion.

Why it Matters:

Bystander Intervention is an essential skill for building safer communities and organizational cultures. Learning how to intervene:
• Harm can be interrupted before it escalates.
• Affected individuals feel supported rather than isolated.
• Teams cultivate trust, accountability, and psychological safety.
• Long-term systemic change is promoted, reinforcing fairness and equity

Session structure:

Two-part training, with Bystander 1 and 2 both at 2.5 hours each. Bystander 2 builds on and follows Bystander 1. Both sessions must be completed and taken consecutively. Each session involves group activities and discussion.
