2025 FortisBC Energy Conservation Leader Award Recipient

Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society.

Kiwanis is the primary provider of below-market rental housing for adults 55+ in North and West Vancouver. It currently operates 744 apartments in eight buildings.

In the last couple of years, they have completed or initiated projects involving gas absorption heat pumps and domestic hot water boiler replacement with solar hot water.

Purpose

Recognition is important.

Established in 2018 and reimagined for 2026, the Energy Conservation Leader Award recognizes a non-profit housing provider for leadership in environmental stewardship, climate resilience, and sustainability. The award celebrates exemplary energy efficiency and conservation, sound energy and asset management strategies, strategic investment in conservation and resilience-focused projects, and a demonstrated commitment to reducing climate-related risks while inspiring others to use energy responsibly.

Eligibility

Nomination criteria.

Recipients for this award are selected by BCNPHA based on energy retrofit projects and energy conservation data.

Energy efficiency and conservation is tremendously important not just only for Kiwanis but I think for all non-profit housing providers.

Nomination Process

How it works

BCNPHA members who are non-profit housing providers may nominate their — or another — organization. The Awards Committee will review nominees throughout the year.

 

Nomination Deadline

June 19, 2026

The BCNPHA Awards Committee will review nominees throughout the nomination period and contact the nominator if the nominee meets eligibility criteria.

Deadline for applications is June 19, 2026.

Please answer the following questions and keep your responses for each section to 500 words or less.
Please describe how your organization has demonstrated climate resiliency, energy efficiency, and sustainability with respect to the built environment. Examples may include but are not limited to energy efficiency upgrades; retrofits that reduce or eliminate fossil fuel use; technologies that reduce water consumption; on-site renewable energy systems (such as solar or wind); and innovative solutions that improve climate resilience, energy performance, and overall sustainability of existing and/or new buildings. (max 500 words)
