BACKGROUND
Affordable housing is the number one issue facing British Columbians and we are searching for someone ready to assist BC Non-Profit Housing Association in ensuring a safe, secure and affordable home for everyone. By helping to ensure our organization is efficiently operated with strong financial oversight and reporting, you can play a key role in ensuring our goals are met.

BCNPHA is the umbrella association for non-profit housing providers in BC, providing services, education, events and advocacy to over 700 non-profit housing societies who provide more than 60,000 units of affordable housing at more than 3,000 sites in the province.

POSITION SUMMARY
As a key member of the BCNPHA’s senior leadership team, the Director of Finance and Administration will drive the organization’s financial policy and direction while also being an active participant in the organization’s overall strategy. The Director will lead all financial administration, business planning and budgeting and will work closely with an engaged finance committee of the Board of Directors, internal staff and our outsourced accounting services.

Major Responsibilities
Strategy
– Engage in operational and strategic issues as key member of senior management team
– Provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation and revenue/expense analysis
– Participate in ongoing operational planning as an integral member of senior management team
– Work with senior management team to develop business cases for new programs and services
– Work with senior management team to develop organizational key performance indicators
– Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with strategic plan
– Engage the Board Finance Committee on issues, trends and changes in operating model and operational delivery

Financial and Operational Management
– Oversee budgeting, implementation of budgets, monitor progress and present operational metrics
– Ensure that finance staff maintain financial record systems in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
– Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics
– Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based and departmental accounting
– Oversee all audit activities
– Evaluate and oversee benefit negotiations, ensuring competitive packages
– Review all formal finance, HR and IT related procedures, processes, administration, regulatory filings, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing systems going forward

Collaborative Leadership
– Develop and manage staff and contractors in finance, HR
– Guide cross-departmental teams outside direct supervision, including in IT
– Engage other members of the senior management team – research and education, operations, and asset management – to facilitate cross departmental collaboration that ensures all financial, IT and HR solutions positively support BCNPHA’s strategy, operational delivery and data collection needs

Reporting Relationships

Reports to: CEO
Direct Reports: Executive Assistant/Office Manager
Indirect Reports: IT Manager, IT Coordinator
External: Oversees outsourced payroll and A/R services

Qualifications
Education
– Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or administration a minimum
– CPA designation a strong asset
Required
– 5 years of experience in finance, operations and administration in non-profit sector, demonstrating progressive responsibilities
– Experience with operational planning, budget development and staff management
– Skill in examining, developing, reengineering and recommending financial, HR and technology policies and procedures
– Teamwork, integrity and initiative
– Strong communicator
– Strong commitment to developing team members

- Salary: $85,000 to $95,000 commensurate with experience
- Directly reports to the CEO
- Works very closely with the CEO of BCNPHA and the senior management team
