The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, Facilities Management the Maintenance Crew Supervisor plays a critical role in the maintenance and upkeep of our buildings with both supervisory and production/painting responsibilities. They are responsible for supervising a maintenance crew of up to five with a focus on rehabbing and painting in primarily supportive housing buildings including SROs. Work is concentrated on interiors of units/rooms after tenants move out and before new renters move in and includes other interior painting such as common washrooms, hallways, lobbies and common areas. Occasional external work is required. Supervisors and painters must be prepared to work fast and efficiently, ensuring adherence to safety procedures/practices when dealing with hazards, and are responsible for inspecting rooms to be painted for pest control, cleanliness and readiness for painting and for ensuring additional prep work is completed when required. Supervisors and painters must use tact and diplomacy, as required, referring tenants to other staff where appropriate, and exercising interpersonal and conflict resolution skills when dealing with tenants with complex health and social issues when other resources are not available. At times supervisors may be required to call emergency services (police, fire, mental health).

You are familiar with colonialism especially as it applies in Canada and you understand the impact of the residential school system. You are committed to working with tenants who are struggling with substance use, brain trauma/cognitive impairment and or mental wellness and you understand and are comfortable working within a harm reduction environment. You have Painting Certificate of Qualification (C.Q.) or Red Seal certification plus, at minimum, three years’ of residential or commercial painting experience and experience supervising a painting or maintenance crew. Additional Requisites/Assets:
You must have the physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. All positions are subject to a criminal record review. A BC Driving License & your own vehicle is an asset.
