Community Housing for Resilient Communities
Affordable housing is becoming a global crisis of the 21st century, a crisis that many residents in larger urban areas across Canada are very familiar with.
More and more people in different cities are feeling disconnected from the way our cities are being built, particularly the way it impacts our homes and communities, with deregulation, financialization of housing into an investment tool and globalisation of both housing financing and development. However, many city and community builders are experimenting new ideas to address this economic structural challenge by building community equity; therefore re-enforce the local connection in the housing delivery system and enhance the sense of belongings of the local residents.“Community Housing for Resilient Communities”is a rare public event that features 9speakers from the community housing sectors of British Columbia and Quebec. They will share their inspiring stories about how they are incrementally acting to increase local control of urban land development to ensure our communities remain inclusive, diverse and resilient through development of housing as community-owned assets. The audience will not only hear 9 stories from BC and Quebec but one collective inspiring narrative of community organizing and housing innovation in Canada.
