Building managers know that energy savings lead to financial savings, but where should your society even begin? Green Asset Management is the perfect place to start.
This course illustrates the many ways taking care of resources like water, waste and indoor air quality can benefit your society’s bottom line. This course will help property and building managers, maintenance staff and administrators integrate green asset management practices into existing operations and maintenance plans. You will gain tools, practices and tips to increase the quality of a property while reducing the negative effects of energy and water use as well as waste production.
Defining Sustainability | Benefits of Green Buildings | Motivation for Change | Benchmarking and Tracking | Energy Management | Pest and Site Management | Water and Waste Management | Financing Sustainability
By the end of the course, successful participants will have created a building operations and maintenance sustainability plan for their building or buildings.
This course includes approximately 32 hours of content. It is recommended that you commit to studying for 3-4 hours a week in order to be done in 8 weeks. However, you will have up to 3 months to complete.
You can progress at your own pace, log in to do assignments, and participate in forum discussions whenever when it’s convenient for you. Having said that, we do encourage you to stick to the posted weekly schedule so that most participants will be working on the same topic at roughly the same time.
Some prior knowledge of Operations and Maintenance would be helpful. Completion of Asset Management Foundations is recommended but not mandatory
As an online course, participants must have basic computer skills and have access to a computer with MS Office 2010 or later and a modern, safe browser. We recommend Chrome, however any updated browser will work. Templates used in this course may require MS Excel, MS Word and .pdf reader. This course is provided in English and requires reading and writing at a grade 8 level.
2021 participant
The course covered building construction and maintenance with the environment in mind. Gabriel was helpful, friendly and fun, and I was supported all the way. The last 27 years with Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society I have taken many courses offered by the BCNPHA. I can easily say I learn so much, and whenever I have a question, each instructor was ready to answer. Do not hesitate to sign up for any course you can, you will love it!
