The Accounts Payable position is assisting the finance department with accounts payable duties. The incumbent must be aware and sensitive to the housing needs of the Aboriginal people. Accounts Payable worker represents the M’akola Group of Societies and embraces the vision to improve living conditions for Aboriginal people while encouraging and reinforcing traditional practices and cultural beliefs. The incumbent will ensure the Society is represented in a professional, responsible and respectful way, at all times.
This Accounts Payable position is responsible for preparing and entering batches of invoices for data entry and processing of cheques for mailing in a timely manner. Ensuring all proper supporting documents and authorizations are present for supplier invoices. Maintains an orderly filing system of all documents.
To be successful in this position you must have Grade 12, completed at least one bookkeeping or accounting course and 2 years of accounts payable experience. You are experienced processing invoices and cheques, as well vendor statement reconciliations. Great Plains experience is preferred; however, experience in accounting software programs is acceptable. Having experience working in Aboriginal communities/agencies and some knowledge of traditional practices and protocols is a plus.

You have proven methods for strong planning and time management, as well as possess high-level bookkeeping skills. You exhibit strong interpersonal skills, display tact, respect and diplomacy while relaying information in a calm, polite, respectful and accurate manner.
Must provide Criminal Record Check upon selection. Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal ancestry as per Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code (self-identify).
